Sulfonyl phenolic resin is a product obtained by the condensation and sulfonation reaction of phenol, formaldehyde, and sodium sulfite under certain conditions. Divided into SMP-1, SMP-II and SMP-II.1, sulfonyl phenolic resin is very hydrophilic, not easy to dehydrate, not easy to desorb, less affected by high temperature, so it has strong thermal stability. Tests have shown that at temperatures of 200-220°C or even higher, no significant degradation occurs. And it has strong resistance to salting out. SMP-1 is soluble in saline with Cl- content of 10-120,000 mg/L or total content of Ca2 and Mg2 of 2000mg/l. SMP-II.1 is soluble in saturated saline.

SMP-1 is used in freshwater and saltwater systems, and the temperature resistance is about 160°C; SMP-II., SMP-II.1 is used in highly concentrated brine systems with a temperature resistance of about 180°C. The recommended increase is 2%-5%.
