Wande Petroleum CMC-HV is a high-viscosity grade of Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose, a water-soluble polymer specifically engineered to act as a premier viscosifier, fluid-loss control agent, and structure-building additive in water-based drilling mud systems.
Its primary function is to significantly increase the low-shear-rate viscosity (LSRV) of the drilling fluid, which is critical for efficient hole cleaning and suspension of drill cuttings and weighting materials.

Key Characteristics & Advantages
1.   Superior Viscosifying Power:
High Yield Point (YP) and Gel Strengths: CMC-HV dramatically increases the yield point and gel strengths of the mud.   This enhances the fluid's ability to:
Suspend Cuttings: Prevent drilled solids from settling downhole when circulation is stopped (e.g., during connections or tripping), reducing the risk of stuck pipe.
Clean the Hole: Effectively transport cuttings from the bottom of the hole to the surface, even in larger-diameter holes and deviated wellbores where annular velocities are lower.
2.   Excellent Fluid-Loss Control:
CMC-HV molecules form a thin, tough, and low-permeability filter cake on the walls of the wellbore.   This minimizes the invasion of filtrate into permeable formations, which helps:
Maintain wellbore stability.
Prevent formation damage.
Reduce the risk of differential sticking.

 3.   shale Inhibition:
As a partially anionic polymer, it can provide a degree of shale inhibition by coating reactive clay/shale formations, reducing hydration and swelling that can lead to wellbore instability.
4.   Temperature Stability:
It offers reliable performance in a typical temperature range for high-viscosity additives, generally effective up to 250°F (121°C) and sometimes higher, depending on mud chemistry and salinity.   It is a robust choice for intermediate-depth sections.

5.   Salt-Tolerant:
CMC-HV can be used in both fresh water and brackish water mud systems, though its viscosity yield may decrease in high-salinity environments (compared to fresh water).   For saturated salt systems, specialty polymers like PAC or HEC might be preferred.
