Product Description


Potassium humate is produced by the reaction of humic acid and potassium . It is highly soluble in water and has excellent thermal stability. As a derivative of humic acid, it is a multifunctional deep-well drilling fluid additive. This product effectively inhibits clay hydration and swelling, prevents core cracking and fracturing, and is an excellent shale inhibitor with additional benefits of reducing drilling fluid viscosity and filtration loss. It is particularly effective for water-sensitive shale, maintaining shale stability and preventing borehole enlargement. It can be directly added to various water-based drilling fluid systems, often used in combination with lignite resin, ammonium salts, and other treatment agents.

Application
1.  Primary Functions and Applications
PAM serves several key roles in water-based muds (WBM):
1.1.Viscosification and Rheology Control
Function:PAM is a highly efficient viscosifier.  Even at low concentrations (0.1% - 0.5% by weight), it significantly increases the viscosity of the drilling fluid.
Mechanism: The long polymer chains of PAM become hydrated in water, uncoil, and entangle with each other.       This creates a network that increases resistance to flow (viscosity) and enhances the fluid's ability to carry cuttings.
Benefit:Provides better hole cleaning, especially in low-flow-rate or large-diameter hole sections.       It helps maintain the necessary gel strength to suspend cuttings and weighting material when circulation is stopped.
1.2.Filtration Control (Fluid Loss Reduction)
Function: PAM is a superb fluid loss additive.
Mechanism:The polymer chains adsorb onto the surface of clay particles (like bentonite) and form a thin, low-permeability filter cake on the wellbore wall.   This cake is tough and flexible, effectively sealing porous formations and preventing the invasion of the liquid phase of the mud (filtrate) into the ormation.
Benefit:Reduces wellbore instability, prevents formation damage, and minimizes the risk of differential sticking.
1.3. Shale Inhibition and Wellbore Stabilization
Function: Acts as a shale inhibitor
Mechanism:Shale formations contain clay minerals (like montmorillonite) that hydrate and swell upon contact with water, leading to wellbore instability, sloughing, and stuck pipe.       PAM inhibits this through two mechanisms:
1.  Encapsulation:** The long polymer chains wrap around and encapsulate shale cuttings, forming a protective barrier that prevents water penetration.
2. Adsorption:The polymer adsorbs onto the surface of clay particles within the shale formation, effectively plugging micro-fractures and pores, thereby reducing water invasion.
Benefit:Maintains a stable wellbore, reduces bit balling, and leads to fewer wellbore problems and non-productive time (NPT).
1.4.  Flocculation and Cuttings Aggregation
Function:Acts as a **flocculant.
Mechanism:In certain conditions, partially hydrolyzed PAM can neutralize the negative charges on ultra-fine drilled solids, reducing electrostatic repulsion.
